| Directions and Local Activities Sheep Mountain/Matanuska Glacier Area Directions Travel the Glenn Highway ( Route 1 ) to the Grand View Cafe and RV Park's driveway at milepost 109.7 Leaving Anchorage, travel the Glenn Highway NE towards Palmer and then on towards Glennallen . We are 109.7 miles from Anchorage. Watch for highway signs 500 feet before the park entrance. We are located to the south side of the highway, so turn RIGHT into the park entrance. Leaving Glennallen, travel the Glenn Highway SW towards Palmer and Anchorage. We are approximately 80 miles from Glennallen. Watch for highway signs 500 feet before the park entrance. Local Activities Matanuska Glacier Area is a destination you will want to include in your travel plans. Local activities include a fifteen minute drive to the Matanuska Glacier, river rafting, glacier treks, ice climbing, wildlife viewing, bird watching, or enjoying the natural beauty of the surrounding mountains and glaciers. Pull out your lawn chair and observe wildlife in their natural habitat. Dall Sheep can best be viewed with binoculars or a spotting scope. World Class Rams have been viewed, as well as ewes with their new spring lambs. Each fall we have been able observe black bears during berry season. Moose are likely to stroll through on occasion as well. Looking for an adventure or that experience you'll never forget? Look no further! The Matanuska Glacier is one of the few Alaskan glaciers accessible by foot and the Grand View Cafe and RV Park is just a 15 minute drive away!
